Continuous consumption insight for electricity, gas and water without complex installations

The challenge

Companies and institutions with substantial energy consumption are required by law to take energy-saving measures and to report on them periodically. In practice, obtaining reliable and usable consumption data proves to be a major bottleneck in this regard.

Electricity, gas and water meters are often located:

• in remote or outdoor areas
• In technical rooms without data connection
• In locations where manual readout is still prevalent

Manual meter readings are time-consuming, error-prone and do not provide continuous insight. At the same time, traditional wired metering solutions are often complex, costly and difficult to integrate into existing installations.

Legal context

For sites covered by the energy savings obligation and information obligation applies:

• energy-saving measures with a payback period of five years or less must be implemented;
• report once every four years on measures taken and their justification.

The law prescribes no specific measurement method or level of detail for, but does require that measures demonstrable and substantiated are. Without reliable consumption data, this is difficult in practice.

The solution: flexible measuring with Neuron Pulse Counter and Neuron kWh Energy Meter

To gain insight into consumption without invasive installations, Sensor Partners offers two complementary measurement solutions that together form a single unit.

1. Reading existing meters with the Neuron Pulse Counter

The Neuron Pulse Counter is a wireless IoT sensor for reading out existing electricity, gas and water meters that have a pulsed output (such as S0 or dry-contact).

The sensor:

• Records pulse signals continuously
• Stores measurement data locally
• Automatically sends data to the cloud as soon as connection is available

This eliminates the need for manual meter reading and creates a consistent data set for analysis and reporting.

• electricity meters with S0 output
• gas meters with pulse contact
• water and flow meters

2. Direct measurement of electrical consumption with Neuron kWh Energy Meter

In situations where no existing (sub)meter is present, or where insight at the cable or asset level is desired, the Neuron kWh Energy Meter offers the solution.

This sensor:

• is clamped around the phase wire
• directly measures power and energy consumption
• requires no interruption of the installation

This makes it possible to quickly and safely measure electrical consumption of:

• individual machines
• production lines
• distributors or specific groups
