Sawing/cutting knobs/embedding out of bamboo for use in sustainable products

De fibers of bamboo can be used for the production of sustainable fabrics. Think for example of underpants (such as Bamigo) and shirts. Bamboo's property is that it is durable and grows very fast. This allows bamboo to be produced on a large scale. To process the bamboo fibers, the knots / knots must be sawn out and cut. This must be done as close to the knot as possible to have minimal material loss. To do this, the knots / knots must be detected as accurately as possible. A major challenge with bamboo is the heterogeneity of each branch. This means that each stem can have a different diameter and the stem at the bottom can be much thicker than at the top. Sensor Instruments' A-LAS series sensors in combination with an A-LAS-CON1 enable accurate and reliable detection of knots / knots in bamboo at high speed.

Dynamic laser light curtain for the detection of deviations in bamboo stems

The A-LAS-100-T+R in combination with the A-LAS-CON1 control unit is a dynamic laser light grid that can be used for the detection of knobs / embeddings in bamboo. The emitter and receiver have an active measuring height up to 100 mm so the bamboo fibers can move through the light grid with a wide margin. Using the special dynamic analatics of two seperate channels a differentation between stem and knob can be done regardless the thickness of the bamboo stem or knob. In this way a differential measurement is performed between stem and knob. So not specifically a thickness measurement of the stem and knob. Because of the high measuring frequency of 25 kHz the measurement can even be performed on high speed.

The detection of the A-LAS in combination with the feed rate of the stem can be used to automatically cut the knobs out of the bamboo stems. With the potentiometer and Windows software the A-LAS sensors can be configured depending on the demands in the application. The control unit is avalaible with an analog 0 - 10 V output or with an analog 4 - 20 mA output. At last, the control unit has 2 digital inputs and 3 digital outputs.
