The inspection of the front- and backside of materials


Many materials or products have a front- and backside with differences in color and structure. For example leather for the interior of cars, but also carpets, paper sheets, etc. It is possible that the front is blue and the back is green. The structure of leather could be rough on the front and smooth on the back. With these materials it is important that they are pointed in the correct direction and are used with the correct side up or down. A COAST color- and structure sensor from Sensor Instruments is suited for the inspection of the front- and backside of materials. This sensor is capable to distinguish the colors and structure of materials. Even the differences in material which can not be observed with the bare eye.
The COAST-56-45°-VIS-IR4 is a hybrid sensor from Sensor Instruments. It is capable to perform a measurement of the coulour as well as the structure of a surface. In this application the sensor inspects and recognizes the front- and backside of materials. The measurement is fast and accurate on a range of 56 mm to the material and with a 20 mm spot size.
This sensor consists of two types of integrated sensor which are only synchronized by the LED-ring light, but otherwise operate independently of each other. One sensor measures the color (or possibly the gloss) of the surface and the other one the structure. The coulour measurement and the structure measurement are never performed at the same time. Furthermore the sensor can be used in-line (directly into the production process). The sensor is equipped with 5 digital ouput (NPN/PNP and NO/NC).
