Sensors in rollercoasters

The robust and water-resistent stainless steel housing of the SM9000 photoelectric sensors are suited to be deployed as sensors in rollercoasters and other attractions where they are exposed to challenging conditions.

Challenging circumstances for big range of sensor in amusements parks

Sensors in rollercoasters say nothing for most people. That's not so surprising. Because amusement parks are filled with machines that are "dressed up" as rides. Most people will not take a moment to wonder about its workings. However, in reality there are sensors everywhere to make all the machines work properly. From vending machines to roller coasters: an amusement park is where enjoyment and automation come together.

If everything works as intended, it is all right. But, as soon as a sensor malfunctions and a ride stops or has an accident it will add to a perfect storm of negativity. Quite literally, because environmental factors such as water, dust and dirt can bring problems with them. For example, sensors in rollercoasters can short circuit with water that seeps into the housing. Over time, the risk of accumulating dirt and dust is also a risk for outdoor rides in particular. This can lead to the sensor being unable to do a detection or measurement. If so, then the rollercoaster ride will continue without any control. In the best case, the ride will stop when the ride has encountered a malfunctioning sensor and the control systems make it stop out of safety.

Reliable photoelectric sensor are suited as detection or monitoring solution in several attractions

Is there a capable solution you might ask. Well yes, there is! We're talking about a sensor that is built to withstand all of the mentioned factors: the photoelectric sensors from Telco Sensors. These are capable for use in rollercoasters and other rides. The photoelectric sensors can literally take a hit because of the stainless steel housing. Does the ride pass through water? Or is it located outdoors with dust, sprinklers, a bright sun or dirt build-up? Have no worries with the robust transmitter and receiver sensors from the SM9000 series such as the SMT 9070C TS 5 (transmitter) and the SMR 9070 TS 5 (receiver). Applications in an amusement park are a suited area for these sensors with a range of up to 70 meters.
