Successful measurement of sintered steel gears with pyrometers

Recently, our i-Tec sensor, specifically the i-Tec USB8 CF, was used to successfully measure the temperature of sintered steel gears. Operating in the range of 8-14 µm, this pyrometer has proven to be effective for measuring the temperature of gear teeth.
Successful measurement of sintered steel gears with pyrometers

Although short-wavelength pyrometers are traditionally preferred for measuring steel, the i-Tec USB8 CF provided excellent results at lower temperatures and at lower cost. For the measurements, the gear was heated to above 180°C and then slowly cooled. A thermocouple was attached to the gear to monitor the temperature. With an emission setting of 0.32, the i-Tec USB8 CF tracked the temperature of the thermocouple within a margin of 2°C over a 23-minute period.

These findings open up new possibilities for measuring metals at low temperatures with pyrometers. In addition, the precisely focused optics of these sensors allow them to measure smaller areas of the object, improving the precision of temperature measurements.
