Thickness measurement of steel plates

The production process of steel plates is an accurate and complex process. During the process various measurements should be carried out. This is to prevent that mistakes arise in these products. This results in extra overtime and unnecessary costs. One of those measurements is the regulation of the temperature during the different process steps.Furthermore it is important that the steel plates have the correct dimensions at the end of the process. Think for example of measuring the length of the beams before they are entering the oven. An other important process step is carrying out a thickness measurement of steel plates. In this way, adjustments can be made where this is necessary.
For a thickness measurement of steel plates a sensor is placed on the top and bottom of the steel. This way the reference value, this is the 0 point. Then, an accurate measurement can be done to observe whether the layer of coating on a steel plate is thick enough. If not, than it is taken out of the process to then be provided with a new layer of coating. This way, mistakes in the production are fastly recognized and corrected.
These two seperate sensors are mounted on a C profile. This C profile is available in multiple dimensions. This profile makes sure that the sensor always have the correct distance to each other, even when moved to another spot.
The L-LAS-LT-37-MA-SL is a master/slave displacement sensor from Sensor Instruments that is capable to carry out an accurate thickness measurement of steel plates. The sensor has a measuring rang of 35 up to 39 mm, an accuracy of 1μm and measuring frequency of 200 Hz. With the potentiometer the tolerances can be set up. The master is furthermore provided with a LED-display to adjust the measuring range and the sensitivity. Finally, this laser has a RS232 interface and is equipped with 2 digital inputs, 3 digiital outputs and 1 analog output.
