Setting up and configuring the i-Tec MiniBus system with the PM180 and PMB Hub

Correctly setting up the I-Tec MiniBus system requires careful wiring and proper network configuration. This article will guide you step-by-step through the installation and initial setup of the system. You will learn how to wire the sensors, connect the PM180, and add devices via Modbus.

I-Tec miniBus System Overview

De I-Tec Minibus-sensor is a non-contact infrared temperature sensor for measuring the surface temperature of non-reflective materials in industrial applications, with a range of -20°C to 1,000°C.

The PM180 is a temperature monitor, data logger, alarm unit, and configuration tool for I-Tec infrared temperature sensors. The PM180 functions as a Modbus master within an RS485 network and can support up to six temperature sensors.

The PM180 can also function as a Modbus slave on the left port within another RS485 network.

This makes it possible to connect multiple PM180 units together, creating a larger network of sensors and displays.

The PMBHUB I-Tec Junction Box is a connection box that allows up to six sensors to be connected to a PM180. The HUB has six channels and two additional cable glands on the top and bottom.

How do you set up the I-Tec MiniBus system?

1. Connect sensor cables
First, connect the sensor cables (image left) to the detachable screw terminals of the hub (image right).

Next, connect the PM180 to the hub using a network cable, again following the same color coding. See the illustration above.
Connect the power supply.

3. Turn on power
Then, switch on the power supply.

After powering on, the PM180 first displays the sensor overview. This list is empty by default.

4. Enter password

You can unlock the device here with the password. By default, this is 1234

5. Adding sensors via Modbus
Next, we open settings (image left) and go to Modbus master (image right).

Through the sensor list Can we add a new device.
Using the sensor's address number, we select Pyro Minibus and type in the corresponding address number.

The sensor has been added. If multiple sensors are connected to the PM180, repeat the process. ‘Add device’ for each sensor.

When all sensors are added, tap the Exit pictogram. After that, you can start measuring the temperatures.

Scalable network integration via Modbus RTU

The I-Tec MiniBus can be installed as a new temperature monitoring system or integrated into an existing Modbus network with third-party hardware. With Modbus RTU communication, up to 247 I-Tec MiniBus sensors can be connected to one network, making it easy to monitor temperature across hundreds of measurement points. See the image above.
