Cold rolling is often followed by several post-treatment steps, depending on the desired end product. These include heat treatment, cleaning, surface treatment and galvanizing. Although these steps are similar in structure to earlier process stages, they place unique demands on monitoring and control. IoT sensors play a vital role in this to ensure quality, safety and continuity.
Infrared temperature sensors - for annealing processes and coating lines - During heat treatment (annealing), temperature determines the microstructure and mechanical properties of the steel. A deviation can lead to undesirable hardness, brittleness or stresses in the material. Temperature is also essential for adhesion and chemical reactions during coating processes. - Sensors monitor the temperature in ovens and baths to ensure that the process remains stable and reproducible and the final product meets specifications.
Ampere/consumption sensors - for motors and pumps - Motors move material through the line, and pumps circulate fluids such as acids or zinc. Changes in power consumption can indicate wear, blockages or overload. Early detection prevents downtime and damage. - Sensors measure the power consumption of drives and pumps, allowing abnormalities to be detected quickly and maintenance to be scheduled proactively.
Pressure/vacuum sensors - for filters, pipes and baths - In coating and cleaning processes, it is essential that fluids and air flows circulate correctly. Clogged or leaking filters can lead to contamination, inefficient operation or safety hazards. - Sensors monitor pressures in pipes, baths and exhaust filters (e.g., via differential pressure) to keep the system operating safely and effectively.
