The bks+3/FIU ultrasonic web edge sensor from microsonic is a fork sensor that detects the edge of sound-absorbing materials such as foils or paper. This makes the bks+ sensors ideal for the web guiding of very transparent foils, light-sensitive materials and materials with fluctuating transparency and paper with a lot of paper dust formation.
The working principle
The sensor contains an ultrasonic transmitter that sends out short cyclic sound pulses. These pulses are detected by the ultrasonic receiver located in the same fork housing, facing the transmitter. A material located between the transmitter and receiver in the fork opening of the sensor ensures that part or all of the sound pulse is attenuated. This attenuation is processed in the sensor. Depending on which part of the sound pulse is attenuated by the material, an analog signal (0-10 Vdc or 4-20 mA), data packet via IO-Link or a PNP or NPN switching output. The operating range for the bks+3/FIU is 12 mm, for the bks+6/FIU it is 40 mm.
Switching between a voltage- or current-based analog output is possible with a button or through LinkControlThe bks+ is pre-configured and ready to use. Optionally, it can also be configured extensively with the LinkControl LCA-2 adapter. As a standard, version 1.1 of the IO-Link is installed.
